Master's course in Ionizing Radiation and Radiation Protection
Comecer's LAT065 Calibration Center and the University of Bologna for radiation protection training on a sealed solid neutron source.
The University of Bologna has recently launched a highly specialized Master's program intended for professionals in the field of radiation protection who wish to enter the Radiation Protection Expert exam. In this training context, our LAT065 Calibration Center has been involved to offer an essential contribution as an internship activity for those working or wishing to work in the field of radiation protection, particularly with reference to the requirements for access to the examination for the third degree.
The internship program for Master's students featured two days in particular, a first start-up dedicated to theoretical training and a second aimed at verifying practical learning. Monday, Oct. 14th with talks by Lorenzo Isolan (Educational Tutor and Master Lecturer) and Stefano Zanella (Laboratory Manager), who explored in depth technical-administrative aspects related to radiation protection regulations and source management, providing participants with a solid theoretical foundation.
On Oct. 21st, students participating in the internship were accompanied during learning verification activities with putting into practice what they learned through direct exercises at the Calibration Center. The students had the opportunity to verify their ability to perform measurements with the instruments in the center and to participate in practical tests under the guidance of our experts. The objective was to confirm the practical experience, which was useful to consolidate the theoretical knowledge and to prepare the participants for the field work.
This second level Master's degree in Ionizing Radiation and Radiation Protection is one of the few such training opportunities in the country. There are currently only three Master's programs in Italy that offer such a specialized course, which is why the initiative has attracted the attention of students and professionals from different regions. The presence of participants from all over Italy demonstrates the strong interest and the need for development in this field, especially in the light of increasingly stringent safety regulations.
The training activity was also attended by Prof. Francesco Teodori, Director of the Master's Program, and Prof. Marco Sumini, who followed with interest the theoretical and practical sessions. Their presence underlined the importance of this collaboration between universities and specialized centers such as ours, which benefits the training of new experts in the field of radiation protection.
